There was already a great sense of pride that could be felt throughout our offices when Toronto was chosen to host the Pan Am games this year. Now imagine the added sense of excitement when Finer Events was given the opportunity to participate in the 2015 Pan American Games. It goes without saying that our participation was in no way athletic, but it was by offering to do what we do best: event design and corporate branding.

Granted this is the third time that Canada hosts the Pan-American games, but it is the first time that they are hosted in the province of Ontario in a variety of venues. The 2015 Pan American Games used a mixture of new venues, existing and temporary facilities, some of them in well-known locations such as the Exhibition Place. The opening and closing ceremonies were held at Pan Am Dome a.k.a. Rogers Centre, which will be referred to during the Games as the “Pan-Am Ceremonies Venue” for sponsorship reasons. Some of the competition venues in the Toronto area include Exhibition Stadium, the Pan Am/ Parapan Am Fields, the Exhibition Centre and the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. There are also a few competition venues outside the city of Toronto. Those include the Mississauga Sports Centre, Markham Pan Am Centre in Markham, Hamilton Pan Am Soccer Stadium, the Oshawa Boxing Centre in Oshawa, and the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course in St. Catharines. All of Toronto and major surrounding cities were buzzing with “Panamania” and we just couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of it all.

An impressive count of 6,132 athletes representing 41 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in the Americas were present in our province, marking this the largest multi-sport event hosted in Canada [in terms of athletes competing]. There were a total of 364 events in 36 sports, which included the 28 sports that will be contested at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In fact, some of these sports also served as qualification paths for the Olympics. Some of these decorated athletes are Canadian and others hail from the United States, France, Brazil, Jamaica, Germany and Italy to name a few.

In the midst of all the excitement, Finer Events gets called upon by the Jamaica Tourism Board to create a custom branded vinyl floor installation for a major event they were sponsoring and hosting at Atlantis Pavilions for Team Jamaica House in honour of all the Jamaican athletes participating in the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto. It was an honour and a delight to take part in this three-day event series aimed at promoting the rich culture and talent of a country that has produced the likes of Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

We have each come away from the 2015 Pan American games with our very own unique set of memories; and thanks to the Jamaica Board of Tourism and Team Jamaica House, Finer Events was able to not merely observe but participate in the Pan Am games in our very own way and, as a result, have been rewarded with some priceless memories that will stay with our company for many years to come.
